“I try to understand my characters rather than judge them. Because no one sees themselves as the villain in their own story”| Interview with author Zina Becker

Today I’m hosting Zina Becker author of Mom Knows Best (The Knows Best Series) in my blog. It is my pleasure to welcome Ms. Becker to this episode of the author interview.

Zina Becker is a psychological thriller author drawn to the darker layers of human nature.
With a background in poetry, she developed a strong focus on emotional depth and internal conflict elements that now define her thrillers.
Her work explores themes of perception, control, and the uncomfortable truth that no one is ever the villain in their own story.
She lives in Europe, where she continues to write stories that challenge the way we see people, trust, and reality itself.

Q: For readers who are just discovering you, could you tell us a little about
yourself and your journey into writing?

I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, even before I consciously decided to become a writer. I started out with poetry, which allowed me to explore emotions in a very raw and personal way. Over time, I felt the need to go deeper — to not only express emotions, but to understand them. That’s what naturally led me to psychological thrillers. Today, I write stories that explore the hidden sides of human nature — the thoughts we don’t say out loud and the choices we try to justify.

Q: What drew you toward storytelling in the psychological and emotionally
intense space, as seen in Mom Knows Best: No one is a monster in their own
story
?

What fascinates me most is not what people do, but why they do it. Psychological thrillers give me the space to explore that gray area — where right and wrong are not always clear.
In Mom Knows Best, I wanted to create a story where the reader constantly questions perception, truth, and trust — because in real life, those lines are often blurred.

Q: The emotional tension in your story seems to come from what is hidden
rather than what is revealed. How do you approach building suspense
through silence and secrecy?

I believe what’s not said is often more powerful than what is. Instead of revealing everything, I prefer to let tension build through small details — a thought, a hesitation, a contradiction. Silence creates space for the reader’s imagination, and that’s where suspense becomes personal.

Q: Your narrative touches upon control within familial relationships. Do you
see this as a reflection of broader societal dynamics as well?

Family relationships are often built on love — but also on control, expectations, and unspoken rules. I think these dynamics reflect broader patterns in society. In my writing, I explore how control can sometimes be disguised as care, and how difficult it is to recognize that from the inside.

Q: Without giving too much away, the protagonist’s journey feels deeply
internal. How important was emotional transformation compared to plot
progression in your writing?

For me, emotional transformation is just as important as the plot — sometimes even more. A twist only matters if the reader feels it. I focus on building an internal journey, so that when the story shifts, it resonates on a deeper level.

Q: Did writing this book change your own perceptions about trust, especially
within close relationships like family?

Writing this book definitely made me reflect more on trust and perception. It reminded me how easily we accept certain truths — especially within close relationships — without questioning them. And how dangerous that can be.

Q: As a writer, how do you balance empathy for your characters with the
darker choices they make?

I try to understand my characters rather than judge them. Because no one sees themselves as the villain in their own story. Even the darkest choices come from a place that, to them, makes sense — and that’s what makes them human.

Q: Looking back at your journey with Mom Knows Best, what part of the
writing process stayed with you the longest, even after the book was
finished?

The emotional weight of the characters stayed with me the longest. Even after finishing the book, I kept thinking about their choices — and whether they could have chosen differently. That lingering question is something I hope readers experience too.

Q: What would you say to readers who see parts of their own experiences
reflected in your story?

I think one of the most powerful things about stories is recognition. If readers see parts of themselves in the story, I hope it makes them reflect — not with fear, but with awareness. Because understanding is always the first step toward change.

Q: As you move forward, what kind of stories are calling you next and what
can your readers look forward to from you?

In the beginning, I honestly believed that Mom Knows Best would be a stand-alone thriller. But then one night, I came up with a great idea for how the story can continue. Now “Dad Knows Best” is available for pre-order, and it’s coming soon. I’m continuing to explore psychological tension and complex characters — stories where nothing is entirely what it seems. Readers can expect darker themes, deeper emotional layers, and twists that challenge perception. I’m especially interested in pushing the boundaries between reality and the mind

My review

How often you will get the chance to immerse yourself in a story which portrays the depth of human emotions? Courage Johnathan is one of a kind novel. It is a slice of real life. Not all of us are figured out everything we want in our life. We often step into emotional dilemmas that we are not ready to face. One way or another, we all want to run away from our problems. But it is never the solution. The real solution will come only when we decide what we really want by upholding our ethics, integrity and emotions. Courage Johnathan is a beautiful story that reflects this message.
Johnathan is going to marry Caroline at the picturesque Bali. But he is unsure of his feelings. His family has put on huge pressure on him to choose between his fiancé or his trust fund and business. He worked day and night to build his company and he enjoys his job. He is not ready to give it up. But what will it cost him? He knows money can’t buy love and love can’t make money either. He has to make a decision that is true to his
feelings and ethics.

Courage Johnathan is the second part of the Courage to Rise series by the author. I have read the first part of this series, Courage Caroline. It revolves around the life and decisions of Caroline. But in this part, the author has reversed the point of view. Here the whole story follows Johnathan and his strained relationships whether it is with his family or Caroline.

The author has used her exceptional storytelling skills to narrate this story with the right pace and concise dialogues. She has painted the emotional struggle of Johnathan and Caroline using very few words. We can literally feel their inner conflicts and indecisions. There is also a little bit of suspense and mystery in the middle, which makes the plot intriguing.

This realistic story is undoubtedly a perfect choice to uplift one’s soul. Highly recommended.

My review

Success is the only thing that is unquenchable in many minds. Sadly many of them never achieve what they want in life. I was always curious about achieving success and greatness in life. I admired people who have the grit to achieve their dreams. What is the secret code for success? Is there any hidden formula for achieving it? These questions lead my way to this book.

This is the voice of an extremely successful person. This blueprint presents the common success traits extracted from highly successful people as well as the author’s life. This book demystifies all myths around success. It demolishes all doubts.

The book begins with a chapter on luck. What a way to start a book about success! Because we all are in one way or another, ties success with luck. The more we fail, the more we blame luck or rely on it. But luck does not deserve any importance in success. This powerful tool has many chapters like this which establishes the author’s arguments, undoubtedly.

This is clearly a success accelerator. The author cites experiences from his own and from his students and mentees to support this. These experiences are narrated as raw and unadulterated. We can see and interpret how the author has defined his goals and draw a blueprint to reach those goals. But the important thing about making blueprint is they are useless without action. The last section of this book teaches us how to keep going amidst all odds. Loved the content as well as its presentation.

My Best Pal: The Awesome Ethan by Karlene Stewart| Review

My Best Pal is the heartwarming story of a young boy who enjoys the company of his teddy bear Ethan. They go everywhere, and do everything together; until one day there is a big change, and nothing is the same anymore.

My review

My Best Pal: The Awesome Ethan is a beautifully illustrated carefully crafted story. It is all about Jason and Ethan and their friendship. Jason was a very lonely boy before the arrival of Ethan. He was bullied and teased by other children in his school. But when he met Ethan, his entire life changed. He wants a friend who accept him and not judge him instead. He found his true companion in Ethan.

I loved this story. The full-size illustrations are the first thing that caught my eyes. But the author has penned a full story along with them. She carefully incorporated values such as care, acceptance, love and friendship in the story. This helps to inculcate these priceless emotions in my child from his young age. I believe these qualities will create a permanent effect on his behaviour. They will also help him to thrive in future.

The biggest message from the story is the acceptance. In a world filled with racism and divides, inclusiveness is an important lesson to teach our children. Our happiness depends on our thoughts and action. We can find happiness in every difficult situation with the right mindset. Loved this message!

Perfect guide for financial management!

Financial freedom is one of the most sought-after dreams for many. Yet many of them couldn’t reach their targets ever in life. You may have a good income, but you may fail to build wealth. Getting rich is easy but building wealth is hard. Because rich can be poor in a day, but wealth is longlasting. What is the key to creating wealth? It is the right financial education.

Everyone should learn about their financial condition and its management regardless of your age. The early you learn this, the better your finances are. This is a systematic structured guide for this. The first half of the book is dedicated to analyze and manage our current financial situation. Creating a good financial plan is the first step towards the right management. This establishes our goal. Then the author explains how you can create a financial report card. Analyzing our income and expenditure every month is vital to reach a better understanding of our current situation.

The second half of this book talks about building your wealth by managing credits, dealing with paper assets, creating a positive cashflow and investment options. One of the best features of this book, it has an elaborate manual on building various investments. The author dedicated four chapters to explain them with accuracy. This is my best takeaway.

This is not a simple financial guide. This is a practical guide. I liked the way the author has explained all the difficult concepts using simple language which made them easy to comprehend. Overall, this was a good learning experience.

Barn Tales: Book 6 of Whispering Willows series by Diana Dawn| Book review

Blurb

The evil witch and the Captain that Lily fears so have found their way into the Willows. Lily is torn between two men whom she loves. But can she sort out her feelings amidst the trouble that Margurite and the Captain could potentially cause for the village? Does the answer to their problems lie within the mirror…within a time hundreds of years ago back in the House of White kingdom? ‘Barn Tales’ is the sixth book in the Whispering Willows series.

My Review

Barn Tales by Diana Dawn is the sixth installment of the Whispering Willows series. In this part, the story is entirely focused on Snow’s identical sister Lily. The previous book ended in a cliffhanger, that made me eagerly pick this one and read as soon as possible. Just like all the other five books, the author Diana Dawn has not disappointed me a bit. She brilliantly crafted this book too.

With the presence of Captain Philippe and the evil witch Margurite in willows, the plot is exciting from the beginning. The author doesn’t follow the usual pattern of storytelling in this book. She is narrating two parallel stories throughout the book, one is the struggle of Lily to decide between Thomas and Nate, the other is the mysteries around Captain and witch. I must say, she had done a marvelous job through this storytelling. She has narrated two different aspects of a story without losing its emotions to the core.

Lily is not at all identical to Snow in appearance but also in character too. She is also confused in love, an emotion she never experienced before. The author has well presented her viewpoints on love and her tender character of not hurting anybody. I really liked Lily on these points.

I really missed Snow in most of the parts. The author has now shifted her focus to Lily’s story and didn’t allow her to appear not more than one percent of the story. But I’m really looking forward to the next part. Because there are many unanswered questions in this story. I badly want to unwind these mysteries.
