My review

How media is controlling our mindset? We don’t have any original thoughts. We are just paraphrasing things that have been fed to our minds through electronic gadgets. They spread their propaganda like a wildfire. Within no time, we became their machine to carry on that propaganda. We learn to normalize violence. We learn to ignore police brutality. Because we only hear one side of a story. The media only deliver what they want to propagate. We will never know the truth. Through this book, the author is trying to uncover the truth behind police, DAs, judges, and the whole law enforcement system.

This was truly an eye-opener for me. These words will pierce our brains. This will make you think and question our system.
The author explains how he got arrested three times as wrongly accused. His experience will teach you one thing-how the law enforcement officers can manipulate every law in this country within seconds. It was quite shocking to know how easily they can frame anyone. On the other side, these wrongful accusations affect the victims on a larger scale. They may lose their job, career, and their credibility. The impact on their mental health will be immeasurable.
This shocking account uncovers every unlawful activity and the true face of our system. A must-read.

Have you ever felt like earning 70k or more was just completely out of reach?

Title: How To Get A Technical Writing Job: With Little Or No Experience

Author: Loren Robinson

Pages: 34

My review

Technical writing is one of the fastest-growing and in-demand jobs. It is less competitive than creative writing jobs. If you are someone who is looking for a career change or starting afresh and considering a technical writing career, then this is the perfect guide, to begin with. Technical writing is not a complex career. But it requires patience and relentless learning to meet its demands.

Over the seven chapters included in this book, the author explains all the details about this job. The book starts with an introduction to technical writing and its cons and pros. We will get a fair idea about this field after this. Then he explains the necessary skills and education for this job. In the last part, he explains how we can find the opportunities and excel in interviews. The book also has details about the online courses and materials we can use for this purpose.

The book is written with a do it yourself attitude. It addresses all the beginners who are interested in this field. Because of that, the book lacks depth in information. Other than that, this is a good information guide for everyone who is considering a career in technical writing.

Say So by Marian Hanna MPH| Book review

415soOjdMCLDelving into loss, empowerment, and despair, this is a unique, page-turning art of nonfiction with real-life stories. This is a compilation of gorgeously written stories about daring to be more, transcending expectations, and generating opportunities for yourself when doors are being slammed in your face. This book will provide the road back to yourself when you’re lost and teach you how to stop doubting the greatness in yourself and act with love, as the absence of love is fear. This is an honest, blunt, sassy, unapologetic and raw account of life-changing insights of hope, faith, and personal transformation.

As the reader discovers the depths of courage in vulnerability, you learn along with her that in forgiving your past and moving toward your truest selves, you will flourish in the chaos of life.

My review

Say so is a collection of stories about real-life experience and the lessons learned from it. The author has narrated a piece from her own life through simple words. The author never tries to sugar-coat the harsh realities. She put down the raw face of real-life realities as it is. This helps to take responsibility for our actions. This encourages us to create our opportunity and carve our life in our terms.

The author includes her personal stories to convey each lesson. Why she included her personal stories in the book is explained in the first chapter itself. It is a powerful medium to connect with our audience. Because the author herself has gone through all these difficult situations and realized her faults. She talks about her life lessons. This helps the readers to connect with the lessons.

The author has dedicated more than 50% of the book to only one topic: how to understand and manage fear. For me, all the chapters dealing with fear was empowering. They help to understand myself and my flaws. Fear creates doubts about our capabilities. This doubt hinders us from reaching our goal. To be courageous is no small feat. We often find us in our shell of comfort. These lessons teach us to be more courageous. Just like the saying, everything you want is on the other side of fear.

The rest of the chapters talks about some other great points, such as facing criticism. We never want to hear criticism. We hate it. Because it shows our vulnerability, our flaws. But if and only if, we can accept our flaws then only we grow ourselves and use it for our advantage.

Altogether, this book was a great learning experience for me to understand and renovate myself to face more challenges.

ORGANIC NOMENCLATURE: SIMPLIFIED.: IUPAC System Made-Easy by Anthony O. Nwobosi|Review

Title: ORGANIC NOMENCLATURE: SIMPLIFIED.: IUPAC System Made-Easy Book (Organic Chemistry 1)

Author: Anthony O. Nwobosi

Pages: 109

Organic nomenclature is the foundation of organic chemistry. If the foundation is strong, then you can build a fortress very quickly. Although my favourite subject in school was chemistry, I always struggled with many sections of organic chemistry. It is because of the lack of accurate, simplified and elaborate material in the market. Every time I search for a reference guide in organic chemistry, I ended up in books with incomprehensive information and without any illustrations. But all these difficulties are rectified in this book.

The author has immense knowledge in this field. But what makes this book special is how he chose to present his knowledge through words.

The book has very well structured content. The terminology and basic concepts that need to understand beforehand is explained in the first chapter. This will give a new learner head start. After that, the IUPAC system of nomenclature for Organic compounds are explained. As we progress the learning, all complex nomenclature is neatly explained. Proper exercises are also included at the end of each chapter which is enough to test our knowledge on concepts. The striking feature of this book is the inclusion of a much larger number of illustrated examples. This is a rare and very helpful aspect for all beginners. I would like to see more books in Organic chemistry like this.

An Interview with Jason Arnold|Author of ‘A Beginner’s Guide To Wine’

Today I’ll be hosting author Jason Murray Arnold on my blog. His debut book, “A Beginner’s Guide To Wine” published in June 2020 is available at Amazon.com.

Jason Arnold 2

Me: What inspired you to start writing The Beginner’s Guide to Wine?

Jason: I think, more than anything, it had to do with the fact that while I was learning to appreciate wine, I just couldn’t find a simple guide to start. I had to learn everything the hard way, by getting out there and asking questions. Sure, there are courses on wine, but they aren’t very approachable to the beginner. Too often, they contain information that you can’t begin to grasp while just getting started. The language of the wine world can seem like an entirely different language at first. I read that there are thousands of words used to describe the taste of wine. That can be overwhelming to the beginner. So, I’ve tried to make this book the answer to that problem. How can you understand wine when you don’t have years of learning and lack the experience that trying a few hundred wines brings?

During my career, I’ve had the opportunity to travel and try so many different wines. But the one thing I’ve learned when discussing wine with the people I’ve met along the way is that many of them felt exactly how I did when I began. They find even the basics of wine difficult to understand. I mean with all the fancy words, it’s no wonder that’s true. With so many different varieties of wine and so many different wine growing regions, it can be confusing. They find it difficult to understand what makes one red so drastically different from another. So I tried to explain these things, as easily as I could. The book is my attempt at making the world of wine understandable to the average person. My hope is that by the end of the book, the reader will appreciate everything that goes into making fine wine.

Me: Can you share a snippet that isn’t in the blurb or excerpt?

Jason: Oh, what to share? It’s hard to share just one thing. But I think I’ll share a bit an excerpt from my chapter on American wine. It’s about wines made in Missouri, which is something that very few people, even in the wine world, know much about. But it’s an area that grows a variety of grapes that you, otherwise, rarely see made into wines, which makes it special.

“Missouri is perhaps most famous for producing wine in the corridor known as the Missouri Rhineland. This winegrowing region was founded by German immigrants in the early to mid-nineteenth century. By the 1880s, Missouri was the country’s top wine-growing region. It was the Napa Valley of its day.

Today the state benefits from Missouri’s long summers and thin rocky Ozark soil. Missouri is even known as the cave state for its many underground caverns. There, wineries often utilize the natural cellars. Missouri’s most prominent variety of wine is the state grape, the Norton. But it also produces plenty of sweet wine with native grapes, such as the Concord. Most vineyards also plant French-American hybrids, such as Vignoles and Chardonel.”

Me: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Jason: I don’t think I ever planned to be a writer. In my professional life, I’m an accountant. I have both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in business. But, I’ve always been passionate about wine. It’s one of my favourite things in life. Wine is something that I appreciate like one would appreciate art. You can describe a particular wine in so many different ways. I suppose you could say each bottle is its own work of art. For me, writing this book was a labor of love. I wanted to share what I’ve learned with others.

Me: What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?

Jason: For me, most difficult part was deciding what information to include and what to exclude. Some things certainly seemed vital, but others more trivial. The Beginner’s Guide to Wine is supposed to be an introduction to wine, and if not for having an editor to reign me back in,  I could have gone on and on about all the finer details and nuances of winemaking. The final work, I hope, provides enough information to answer all questions a newbie would have without overreaching. One of the motivations for writing this book is to encourage the reader explore wine even further. I don’t want them to stop here.

Me: What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing your book?

Jason: When I began this book, I had a pretty good grasp of the major wine grapes and the regions. I could describe the difference between all of them. But I really didn’t know a lot about the history of wine. That took research. From the famous story of Jesus turning water into wine, I knew that wine was around at least as early as Rome. But, I discovered, that it actually goes back thousands of years before that. That surprised me.

Me: Who is your favourite author and why?

Jason: I’d have to say my favourite author was Francis Scott Fizgerald. Not because he struggled with alcoholism, writing about a probation era in The Great Gatsby, but because of his incredible depictions of the Jazz Age. His work always seemed to me like the work of a romantic and the themes of youth, despair, and age resonate with us all. He’s a classic American author that deserves all the acclaim he’s received.

Me: What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

Jason: There is a 1971 book by Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson called The World Atlas of Wine. I’d say that it was one of the first essential works of literature on wine. They revised it last year and it contains some of the most descriptions of wine and the regions in which it has grown.

Me: Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Jason: Well, if you actually want to finish the book, you have to just sit down and write it. You have to keep writing it. Too many distractions and too much planning can both kill your ability to actually get anything done. Words have to hit paper or you’ll never finish. But, I think that the most important thing is to write about something you’re interested in. If you’re not passionate about what you’re writing, it’ll be hard to find the motivation to finish.

Me: If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Jason: Just three words? Methodical, meticulous, and sophisticated.

Me: Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?

Jason: Well, I’m going to start blogging about wine. Before this book, I really didn’t write much. But now, I don’t want to stop. I want to continue sharing knowledge about wine and diving deeper into specific topics. This book is just an introduction. Maybe I’ll write a book specific to Missouri wine. It’s an underrated wine region. And it’s the next obvious, move for me. I mean, that’s where I live and work. There are some great vineyards in my backyard.

Developing a good immune system is an absolute necessity for all humans now. We should gain more knowledge about the human body for this. The author explains all the basic and advanced knowledge about our body in simple and easy to understand terms. It is written as simple as that anybody who is interested to know more about the human body can understand everything in this book easily.

When I saw the title, Gut healthy, I thought that it will only talk about our gut. But he begins with gut and gradually moves to all other sections of general wellbeing. It is quite interesting to know about what is happening inside our system. From the introduction of the book itself, he clarifies that the gut is not an unimportant part of our body as we think. “Where Will Man Take Us?: The bold story of the man technology is creating” by Atul Jalan

  • Title: Where Will Man Take Us?: The bold story of the man technology is creating
  • Author: Atul Jalan
  • Paperback: 272 pages
  • Publisher: Penguin Portfolio

There are not so many books that I love to re-read or gift others. But this book is above all praises….

As evident from the title, this is a non-fiction work. The brilliant yellow cover of the book is perfect for this category book.

I can guarantee you, this is a 100 percent money worth and time worth read you can find.

The narration skills of the author are mind-blowing. From prologue itself, he ignites the interest and energy that a reader needs to complete this 300+ page book. The curiosity he made in the prologue itself points out the craft of the author. This is one of the best prologues I have ever come across in non-fiction category.

Usually, non-fiction books are subject-centric. They are purchased and read purely for academic purpose. But this book is clearly an innovation in this category. The presentation of each and every topic is fascinating.

The book is divided into 5 sections mainly. In the first section which is named as the ‘Drivers of change’, the author talks about 6 subjects ranging from Alan Turing to Genetics. It is a perfect introduction of technology from its past to the future. It gives a clear idea about the future technologies. In the second section, he talks about everything in societal life ranges from matchmaking and democracy to Artificial intelligence. The power of data is explained elaborately and it is something that everyone has to be educated. The third part is all about the magic of math. For me, the fourth section was most enjoyable because it deals with astrophysics and extraterrestrial life. The author has tried to answer some of the great mysteries of all the time. The fifth and last section is all about the future. The predictions and future technologies are elaborated here. The book is concluded perfectly. It has a beginning and an end.

A reader has to spend some considerable amount of time to complete this book but each and every minute will be worth it. If you are a person who has the slightest interest in science, then this is a treasure for you.

Honestly, I don’t know how to rate this book. The effort and knowledge that has been poured through these 300+ pages worth no less than a 5-star rating.
