Blooms of Nooky by Amercia Morris is a perfect slice of creativity that invites you to experience a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Meet Ebony, an ambitious girl who aspires to be a top fashion designer. She moves to New York to pursue her dream. But certainly, life has some other plans for her. She has to overcome many hurdles on the way to make her dreams a reality.

I was quite familiar with the style of writing of the author through her previous work ‘Planet Nooky’. Although both stories are entirely different from one another, they possess one single most common feature- a strong female lead which drives the story. Ebony undergoes a full transformation in this book. Her naive and innocent nature transforms into a more polished, intelligent and strong charismatic personality. The author never fails to surprise her readers with an original plot. Blooms of Nooky is the best testimony to this fact.

If you are too innocent in the world of greed, you will certainly become a puppet in unknown hands. But once you realised your true power, it will only a matter of time, you can turn the tables. Ebony realised this by experiencing the hardest struggles and unknown emotions. But the path to self-discovery is essentially liberating. Since the climax offers the scope for a sequel, I hope we can visit a new set of adventures sometime soon.

One of the strongest features of this book is its storyline. The author added an element of mystery and suspense to it. This creates different shades in the main characters. We don’t know who is right or wrong. We can only see things from the viewpoint of Ebony. So the layers of this story yet to be unveiled. Looking forward to reading more books from the author.

Title: The Mine’s Eye (Whispering Willows #8)

Author: Diana Dawn

Pages: 92

Genre: Fantasy

The Mine’s Eye is the eighth instalment of the fairytale retelling, Whispering Willows series. The story continues from where it was left in the book 7, Deceptions. This series is turning to be one of the best ones, I ever read. Because I thought it will end in book 7. But the author skillfully crafted and diverted the whole story to a new direction. One of the best feature of this series is, each book offers something new. Novelty is the key that turns the wheels of the Whispering Willows series.

Book 8 is entirely different from the previous ones, both in the sense of story and storytelling. Mitch and Snow are in an emotional turmoil that might cost their happiness entirely. They were a perfect couple, but not anymore. They have to face a mountain of tragedy and the strength of their relationship is truly put to the test. The same goes with Lily and Thomas. They don’t know whom to trust. The Willows is not a peaceful place anymore. People with hidden motives are ruining the happiness there. They will not stop until they get what they want.

I loved the way the author is turning the story. Because she is crafting a meaningful and in-depth relationship between the protagonists. Also, these twists brings new chapters to the main story too. The deceptive and evil nature of people always creates problems. But only then, the true character will get exposed. The author has now separated Lily and Snow’s story. Because they both have their own destinies to fulfil.

There are many questions left to be answered. I’m eagerly waiting to read the next part.

Dessa-Secrets of the Inferno: Shadowland Saga 3 by Andreya Lombardi| Review

The sibling fugitives have taken shelter in a small elfin village in Dyonegar to rid themselves of their criminal titles. But even though these primitive people care little about their high-class counterparts and political conflicts, trouble still seems to trail down the Hargann path. While Syreene trains to tame her demon in secret with a skilled elemental inn keeper Hongue, Cabil secludes himself in his own private mission, starting with rescuing Desonna from the dirty hands of Dread, his prior prison warden.

After discovering she kept his only son Renthal a mystery for eight years, Cabil feels compelled to settle a long feud with the princess of Khorgathe and establish his place in his son’s life. Little does his family know, Cabil also holds another agenda.

A wicked trade of flesh for flesh—Cabil needs to decide who is more important in this tragic tale he calls his life. His deal with the devil draws close, the deadline marked red on his calendar. Guilt tosses his alliance, but the good doctor helps him make a necessary, but risky compromise.

In this, he manages to resurrect his undead mother, but at the cost of his friends and family. Trust becomes a sudden issue, centering ex-militant Cabil as the bad guy. And when things turn vile, Syreene is suddenly struck with having to make a terrible decision, one that may cost her her life.

My review

Dessa: Secrets of the Inferno by Andreya Lombardi is the third instalment of Shadowland Saga. In this book, the journey of Syreene and Cabil from unknown to known continues. I have read the first two books in this series. So I had a fair idea about the story and the storytelling capabilities of the author. After reading this instalment, I must say I admire more her, for bringing this book series to this world.

Andreya picks up the story from where she ended the second book. It was ended in a cliffhanger, so the first chapter was the explanation of that suspense. In this book 3, the author is more focused on unveiling the secrets of Cabil rather than Syreene. She has established the significance of Syreene in the previous one. Now the role is reversed. But their story is not the same. Cabil is gambling the fate of his family and loved ones here.

He was always portrayed as a strong and courageous warrior. But as the author digs deep into his emotions and character, another side of him is slowly unveiled in front of us. Besides the protagonists, I felt that the author also gave much space to the stories of supporting characters too in this one. Because they all have a much bigger role in the life of Syreene and Cabil now.

Book 3 is more focused on the action part of the story which is quite fascinating. They are fast-paced scenes and we can witness the extent of powers of Cabil and Syreene. The flawless narration literally painted every action sequences in front of my eyes vividly. The author deserves full credit for these amazing storytelling skills.

After calming the storm, the author again ended this book at a cliffhanger. But in this time the twist was unpredictable. I have no clue what will be the story of the next book. Because Syreene is all by herself at the end. She has to find a way to complete her mission. What an exciting adventure that will be!

My review

Dessa: Silence in Bloodlust by Andreya Lombardi is the second instalment of the Shadowland saga. Through the first book of this series, Andreya has created an enchanted world of magic and dark fantasy. We were introduced to Syreene and Cabil and their adventures and existence struggles.
The first book ended in a perfect cliffhanger and I was eagerly waiting to read the next one. This one picks up the story from exactly where it was ended, without any glitch.

Although the main theme of the first book was vengeance for the murder of Syreene’s parents, this part is more focused on the evolution of Syreene’s character. Her family history is under close examination and unexpected revelations is derailing her old motives. The main theme for part 2 is the survival of protagonists. They are trapped in the web of conspiracy and power struggle. But all this is linked to a larger than life prophecy too. The mystery of Syreene’s existence is vastly explored in this one.

Her powers and skills are unexplored. This is controlling her. The more she understands her true self, the less it controls her. Her multilayered character is portrayed very beautifully by the author. Empathy and emotional connections are the two recurring themes in this story. Through them, the author is trying to create depth for the characters. They are essential especially if you are presenting a fantasy series to the readers.

I felt that all main characters are multilayered and the author only scratched its surface. This alone adds some unpredictability to the story. I have absolutely no idea where she is heading with this story. Andreya is mounting suspense through her flawless narration. I’m hopelessly thinking that she may reveal something. But again she draws the curtain at the cliffhanger. Many questions left unanswered!

An extraordinary story!

Planet Nooky invites us to a realm of secrets that no one ever explored. They are the ones most sought by human but to no avail. It reveals the secret of pure ecstasy behind the greatest pleasure ever known to humans. But we’re not blessed with that ecstasy forever. Why? This story offers a satisfying yet humorous explanation of this mystery. Planet Nooky is ruled by Gamba and Oni. Their strength and happiness depends on each other. Also, the existence of the people live on their planet. But what happens if Oni put forward an impossible demand that Gamba is not willing to fulfil? Will, it became the reason for their destruction?

First of all, I acknowledge the creativity of the author to come up with a story like this. This concept is fresh and unexplored. But the true talent is to present that unique story without losing its charm and excitement and she has succeeded in it. Planet Nooky answers all our questions. We can find the pieces of human nature in the character of all divine deities. They are considered as the epitome of success. But they also are in the search of novelty and happiness in their life. Without finding and experiencing something new, every life will get deteriorated eventually. This also can be the reason for their destruction. Because greed has no end. We are willing to go to any extreme for the fulfilment of our desires. This theme is beautifully illustrated in this story.

In short, this is truly an amazing work indeed. A full story is narrated through 50 pages with unmatchable freshness!

Dessa-Spirit of Vengeance: A Dark Fantasy Thriller Series (Book One) (Shadowland Saga 1) by Andreya Lombardi | Review

Fight for the militia? Or for a hidden agenda? Cabil knows Syreene all to well—her motives marked with the stain of vengeance of her murdered parents. But Syreene is bent on learning the craft of elemental-wielding for better or for worse, even though her pyro-dancing human foster brother keeps her under lock and key. How embarrassing, for an elf like herself to bare no earthly arms. It’s bad enough her kind is ridiculed already.

The life of a schoolgirl carries little excitement to spark her itch of finding the demon who slayed her biological parents. Cabil insists on letting go of the past, but the fire under the redhead’s furnace burns hot. Even hotter when her older brother comes home one night, unconscious, past town curfew, slung over a mysterious man’s shoulder and plastered with blood. It’s a lot to take in—having to see her high-ranked, on guard brother wounded for the first time, possibly hanging on the brink of death, and the sight of a man that left her stomach sashaying with fluttering butterflies. Déjà vu—the complexity of the moment follows the adolescent to a reckless encounter where she later finds herself kidnapped—a terrible consequence for trying to seek out her brother’s assassin, someone working from the King’s High Council. Her high-end impulsive trait falling in the hands of Cabil’s sworn enemy—smells like a perfect formula for chaos.

Not to worry, as long as she doesn’t tell anyone what happened in the dungeon that night, all will be well. Wishful thinking!

The story unravels, following the trio through battle, sorcery, adventure, and discovering of family secrets. How will Syreene handle her new persona, and face the man who haunts her dreams?

A perfect piece of art!

Dark fantasy thrillers always offers their readers freshness, excitement entangled with suspense. Dessa- Spirit of Vengeance is the epitome of this creativity. A new world with a new system is built. The fight between good and evil gets an artistic turn here. I was completely absorbed in the story and enjoyed it beyond boundaries. This fantasy thriller invites you to a rollercoaster ride of emotions, survival, magic and mystery. Syreene and Cabil are the ones who drive the whole story. Cabil is fierce and courageous while Syreene is determined and strong-willed.

One of the striking feature of this story is the evolution of Syreene. She is a delicate kind soul at the beginning of the story. But she slowly transformed into a fierce warrior due to her circumstances. She is in a process of finding her own identity and existence. But what makes this character interesting is, she is only exploring her unexposed identity. Because of that, her innate qualities stays the same. In other words, Syreene is an extremely satisfying protagonist.

The narration and world-building is the two core pillars of this story. The author has created a foolproof world where elves, humans and demons are fighting for their supreme regime. Every character and the creation story was introduced in the beginning. This provides a comprehensive understanding of all characters beforehand.

In short, this is an epic story of mystery and vengeance. You can’t put down this thriller for sure.

My review

Midnight City by J.R Manga is a perfectly crafted dark fantasy thriller. The story follows a young federal agent Charlie James who is assigned to investigate the increasing missing cases in Seattle. Soon he finds out that his first solo mission is to investigate the missing of a woman named Latoya, with whom he shares a traumatic past from childhood. As the story unfolds, we can witness how these seemingly unrelated incidents leading us to a bigger picture where they all make sense.

The plot is surprisingly fresh, especially for a fantasy genre book. This is not a usual recipe that is flooding in the book market. The author has created a stunning world with a touch of reality. This makes the story captivating and engaging.

The narration and writing style deserves all the praise to carry a good story without losing its charm till the end. We are moving with Charlie as he finds clues one after another. This creates enough suspense to stick with the story.

Undoubtedly, this is one of the best fantasy thrillers I ever read. Highly recommended.

Title: A Hidden Message (The Forgotten Tales Book 1)

Author: Elijah Shaw

Genre: Mythology, African history

My review

What a thriller this is!

A Hidden Message by Elijah Shaw is undoubtedly one of the best stories ever crafted in the mythological fiction genre. It is a blend of African mythology, history, culture with contemporary fiction. We can witness how the modern-day scene is quickly transcending into age-old magical African history. The story is crafted in a way to create a perfect connection between these two entirely different worlds. This magical reality is introduced through the life of Nasir Johnson, a freshman from San Diego state university.

He is a guy who survives with his unique charm and wit. At first, his story seems like anything but ordinary. But then a quick surprise hit hard Nasir’s life. He is suddenly manipulated by some strangers to take part in a quest to unravel his destiny. He realizes that he is not what he thought of. This newfound excitement and knowledge led him eventually to assume his role in the age-old war for power and supremacy.

What makes this tale apart from others is its take on African mythology. It is one of the less explored areas in fiction. But this tale proves that it is more exciting than any of its counterparts. The credit surely goes to the author. He carefully crafted a good story out of this conflict around world mythology. I admire his storytelling skills so much because the story never loses its excitement and thrill. The humorous take on every issue enabled a smooth flow of the story.

I really liked the characterization, especially of the protagonist. His quick wit and light-heartedness along with firm determination sets him apart as a character.

Honestly, I think that this story ended too quickly. Because it has much more potential and it ended in this absolute possibility. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

The Guilt Is Alive by Hemalatha Gnanasekar | Review

Long ago, when life began, our species survived by reacting instantly to the threats. The ancient humans who stopped to smell the roses became easy targets for predators. Today, the predators are mostly gone, but we are still so primed to pay attention to bad news and tend to ignore the good things happening around us. Sivadoss, my father belonged to this very category. He was a grumbler and kept complaining constantly about one thing or the other. He failed to count his blessings and would rather count his problems. He was blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters and I happen to be the eldest of them. Being his loving daughter, I would make an all out effort to solve all his problems, whatever it be. However, father would take the progress for granted and find a new cause for alarm. After his retirement, when he was finding it difficult to make both ends meet, he took a drastic decision in his life. He wanted the eldest of his three sons Sampathkumar to go abroad for a job and support him financially. When he divulged this fact to me, I set about the task in good earnest and wished to fulfill his desire. My brother on the other hand was a man of temper. First, he expressed his disinterest in leaving the family and second he was not willing to pay through his nose to the international recruiting agencies as bribes to get a job. With my prayers, I succeeded in changing his mind. Very soon, he also got a job offer in Jamaica. It was from an Indian, Narayanan, settled in Jamaica. He did not charge any recruitment fee and was also willing to pay for his air-tickets. On reaching Jamaica, my brother realized that he had been duped. He was not given the promised job. He had a tiff with his boss and left the company. Suddenly he finds himself on the streets, penniless. I was gripped with an acute feeling of guilt, for it was me, who had coaxed him to accept the job and leave the country. Shocked beyond belief at the plight my brother had landed himself, I now felt that it was my responsibility to bring him back to India. The letter was the only means of communication then and with less access to phones, it took me nine long years to achieve this goal.

Title: The Guilt Is Alive

Author: Hemalatha Gnanasekar

My review

The Guilt is Alive is a testimony of siblings bond. More than a memoir, this is an exact reflection of a middle-class Indian family. Hemalatha who is the eldest of five children in the family is bound with responsibilities from her birth. Her parents had special care and love for her. But they all came with a price. The parents have high expectations and children are bound to fulfil them, even if it costs their life. This pushed her to interfere in the lives of her brother to meet their father’s wishes. But it does not turns out well and become a source of guilt for her even today. This memoir is heart touching revisit to those days.

Hemalatha’s story is an accurate portrayal of a family. Her memories brings many laughs and tears at times. She has carried this memoir without losing its emotional intensity from beginning to end.

The struggle for money is real. Every penny counts and it is essential for the survival. Besides all these chaos, only one emotion that unites them is love. We can feel the connection and love between the characters throughout the story. This emotional narration is the backbone of the story.

This memoir is a living acknowledgement of sibling relationship. Although the author still hasn’t forgiven herself for interfering to the decisions of her brother’s life, I found one superior connection in their story. No matter how hard is their circumstances, they both are capable to turn things around with their hard work. They quickly get out of the after-effects of every bad decisions through hard work. They never sacrificed their mutual love for them.

The whole book is edited accurately to comply with the US standards. The thorough editing by two different editors reflects in the story. This ensures a smooth flow and connects all the events in the memoir well.

In a nutshell, this is a very good memoir sliced out from the real-life.

Title: Courage Caroline: A Romance Novel

Author: Heather Nadine Lenz

My review

Courage Caroline is a well-crafted romance novel. This is a very interesting story narrated in an exceptional style. The whole story is focused on the journey of Caroline. She runs a successful personal branding business and determined to expand it beyond heights. Her quiet life is quickly changed by the introduction of Jolan. Her life is changing. But she can’t escape the problems that bought along with these new relationships.

What I really loved about this story is its deep essay on strength of relationships. We meet many people in our life. Some may stay, some may leave. But those who stay will carve a deep bond in our hearts. The emotions developed in these relationships have the potential to change our lives forever. This depth is captured without losing its rawness or intensity. It is portrayed in a very realistic manner. You can spot these characters in your own life.

Though this is primarily a romance novel, it also touches on many contemporary issues, especially regarding women. The 21st century has bought changes in the thoughts and encouraged women to be independent not only financially but also emotionally. Their aspirations only come true if they dare to face them. Caroline is a role model in this world. She faces her fears with determination and confidence. She spoke the language of independence. We can witness her transformation throughout the story. Her life comes into a full circle at the end.

Overall, the author has narrated a beautiful slice of story filled with emotions and inspiration.
